Iron Fist's MCU Future Gets Optimistic Update From Finn Jones (2024)

Finn Jones is ready to return as Iron Fist. The actor recently addressed the possibility of reprising the superhero role in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

While speaking with The Nerd Shepherd (via X) at the Heroes Dutch Comic Con in Utrecht, the Netherlands, Jones shared how he believed that there was still "a lot of room for growth with that character." He added, "I think I'm in a place professionally where I would like to continue to grow with that character." As for how he would like to see Iron Fist brought back, Jones agreed that a Heroes for Hire series featuring the character and Mike Colter's Luke Cage would be the best idea. "I would love to see the chemistry between me and Mike again. It was always fantastic. I think those are really interesting characters to put together," he said. "If they would bring me and Mike back to do a Heroes For Hire TV series, I think it would be the right way.”

Jones first appeared as Danny Rand/Iron Fist in the Netflix/Marvel series, Iron Fist, which premiered in 2017. The series, the fourth in Netflix's Defenders Saga, begins with Danny returning to New York fifteen years after disappearing. As the season unfolds, the show reveals that Danny received the powers of Iron Fist during his time mastering martial arts in the mystic city of K’un-Lun. After Iron Fist Season 1, Jones appeared as the superhero in the crossover event series, The Defenders, before starring in a second season of Iron Fist.

Who Are the Heroes for Hire?

Created by writer Ed Hannigan and artist Lee Elias, Heroes for Hire is a superhero business that appeared in 1978's Power Man and Iron Fist #54. Danny Rand and Luke Cage are normally depicted as the leaders of Heroes for Hire, a team that offers their abilities to strangers as a service. While Marvel Studios has not announced plans for a Heroes for Hire project at this time, several characters who have been part of the superhero business at one point in its comic book history have already been introduced in the MCU, like She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Misty Knight (Simone Missick), and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick).

With the Defenders Saga now officially part of the MCU's sacred timeline, Marvel Studios has big plans for the franchise's main characters, which include Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, and Jon Bernthal's Punisher. All three are set to appear in Daredevil: Born Again alongside several other returning Netflix/Marvel actors. While Jones' Iron Fist is not on this returning list, the superhero has been rumored for the upcoming sequel to 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, the rumor states that Danny Rand's Iron Fist will not be the one that appears in the sequel. Instead, the Iron Fist that appears will be the same one that will debut in the upcoming Eyes of Wakanda animated series.
