Games like Ori and the Blind Forest would become overwhelming if you couldn’t level up your skills, but thankfully, Ability Points hidden around the land of Nibel are there to keep you super-charged and pushing through. With three branches in Ori’s skill tree and plenty of challenges ahead, you’ll want to be spending your Ability Cells often to keep your head above water.

But such helpful collectibles may be tricky to find, and that’s where we come in. For help in locating all the Ability Points in Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition, you’ve come to the right place.

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition features additional ability points than necessary to fill up your skill tree, so don't worry if you end the game with more than you need.

How To Use This Guide

Ori And The Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - Ability Points Location Guide (6)

Below, you'll find one section per area of Nibel that contains the locations of each collectible Ability Point. There are 33 total Ability Cells hidden throughout the world, so we've sectioned Nibel out for easier readability.

You won't see each area of Nibel, here though - any area not listed in the guide below does not have Ability Points to find.

Each section of this guide contains a map image of the area marked with orange numbers to denote where each Ability Point is located. These act as a guide to help you find each one's guided notes in the table that shows each Ability Point in the world when you get it.

The Ability Points are not numbered in the game, as Ori and the Blind Forest requires quite a bit of backtracking as a Metroidvania game. You'll occasionally need to return to these areas after unlocking abilities later in the game.

If you cannot get to an Ability Point as you encounter it, remember where it is and come back when your skill tree is more filled out.

Notes

1

There are enemies shooting projectiles down a ramp at you in this area. Hop over one, then use a projectile to launch yourself upwards toward the platform with the Ability Cell.

2

Jump up the platforms in this area using a series of wall jumps and dashes to avoid the spikes, then aim your flame at the trigger just above the spiked platform. In the area with the shallow water, jump straight upwards by the entrance to this section and land on the platform here. Jump and glide as far as you can, then dash your way to the platform with the Ability Cell once you see it and can reach.

3

From the larger area beneath, jump your way up the upper wall to the left, then jump to clear the gap to the next platform. Wall jump up the right wall in this area to reach the inlet with the Ability Point.

4

From the passageway in the tree in the area on the map above, use the branch swings to climb as high as you can. Watch for enemies, then jump up to the upper platforms here. Aim a flame at the trigger just above you, slightly to the right, to open the door.

Notes

1

This Ability Cell is behind an Energy Gate. Once you have enough energy, jump up to the corridor from the lower platform in this area, open the Gate, and collect your Ability Point.

2

When you jump from the platform with the first Ability Cell (above), you’ll see your next one just beyond the left wall. Use the hanging stone platform to jump up onto the top of the root wall blocking your way, then aim a careful flame through the spikes to your right, so it hits the trigger just beyond the spikes. Jump back down to the platform below the first Ability Cell, then backtrack along this corridor. Jump your way back up and over the wall of tree trunk to your right to get the Ability Point you just saw.

3

This Cell requires plenty of wall jumping, air dashing, and precision to get. Jump across the stone platforms, wall jump to the left wall, air dash your way across the lava here, and wall jump your way down so that you’re wall-hugging the right side of the platform with the lava. From there, dash across the water, wall jump to hold onto the wall to the right, and climb to the top of that wall for the Ability Point.

4

From one of the lower platforms in the area, glide using the upward air currents to reach this high spot.

5

Using those same upwards currents, get to the right side of this area (just below where you got the last Ability Cell), and use the current to drift upward toward a crack in the tree trunk to the left. It’s a platform containing the switch you need to open the corridor below, so dash the switch and return to the doorway that was sealed. Go through this corridor, being careful of the enemies here, and then smash the rock platform to get into the water below to grab the Ability Cell from under here.

6

Take out the enemy along the wall that leads into the water in this area, sliding down yourself. Open the gate just beneath the water’s surface for the Ability Cell.

Notes

1

You’ll approach Ability Cell number one from above. We landed on the platform above the Ability Point itself and wall jumped down into the corridor with the Point.

2

From the Map Stone in the area, jump to the left section of wall over the water tunnel and wall jump to the top. It’s a small shortcut that leads through what looks like the border of the map, and it takes you to right above the Ability Cell. Air dash the rock platform to drop in and collect it.

3

This Ability Point is on a small upper platform in the area with broken pillars to jump across and enemies that attack throughout. Get to the furthest platform with the enemy spitting purple projectiles directly above you, and use one of the projectiles to air dash your way upward. Jump to close the distance between you and the branch with the Ability Point.

4

Jump off the large cliff to the right side of this area and use the upward air draft to glide your way up and to the left to find the final Ability Cell in the area.

Moon Grotto

Notes

1

The first Ability Cell can be found by sliding down the leftmost wall in this large, open area. The Ability Cell is just inside an inlet in the wall to the left.

2

The second energy point on the map can be found in a small inlet within the lower corridors on your map. You’ll see it when you drop into this area, so jump up onto the platform to the left (over the Ability Cell). Use a wall jump to slide down the left wall in this area, then jump to the platform with the Ability Point before being hurt by the spikes.

Valley Of The Winds

Notes

1

Use a series of air dashes to get up this vertical corridor through the spikes and over to the Ability Point on a platform to the left.

2

While wall hugging the wall on the left in this area, dash into the stone pillar to break it and get the Ability Cell on the other side.

3

Break the wooden bridge as you enter the Valley to get the Ability Point below.

4

This Ability Point is hidden on a platform behind the vines in the upper right corner of the area with the upward draft. Glide into what appears to be the corner to land on the platform.

5

Wall hug the wall opposite the stone pillar and dash into it to break it to gain access to the Ability Cell.

6

This Ability Cell is blocked. To open it, get to the platform above the Ability Point and follow it into the open area, then look in the upper left corner for a swinging branch to jump to. Aim yourself carefully with an air dash to ping-pong off the bits of wall exposed between the spikes and press the lever at the bottom, or aim a flame if you're more comfortable with that (both processes work). Return to the now-opened gate to claim your Ability Cell.

Notes

1

Keep running left past where you climb into the unmapped area, navigating obstacles as they come. Drop into a small opening all the way to the left to grab this Ability Cell.

There's also an Ability Cell along the unmapped route to the Ancestral Tree, which we were unable to mark for you in the image above without a map layout of the space.

You'll find it as you're making your way to this Ancestral Tree through the area without a map, though - it's difficult to miss on this path.

Notes

1

From the platform above where the Ability Point is marked on the map, guide Ori through a glide down the left wall, being careful of the spikes. The Ability Cell is on a small platform along the left wall.

2

On your map, you’ll see a corridor that’s blocked by a stone pillar. Standing on the swinging branch by the spiked corner above the pillar, aim a flame off into the spikes in the upper-right to hit the trigger that opens the corridor. Jump over into the doorway to claim the Ability Cell.

3

This Ability Cell is past the clusters of spikes in the area marked above on the map. Jump into a wall hug against the right side of the pillar jutting up and dash past the spikes to the right. Dash again to get up to the Ability Point on the right in this area.

4

In the corridor with the oddly-shaped circular ceiling section, you’ll find a ring of spikes with an opening above. Air dash your way up and over this rounded section of spikes and take out the enemy quickly on the other side. The Ability Point is just to the left.

5

Slide down the long wall on the right of the corridor leading to the Ability Point, being mindful of the enemies nearby. Dash over the spikes in the next area to the right to get to solid ground past them, with the jump pad. Use the jump pad to get your height, then air dash over to the platform with the Ability Point.

6

While the laser to the left is stopped, shoot a flame at the bounce pad to the right of where you’re standing in such a way that it bounces up to the next jump pad and over to the rocks blocking your vertical jump upward. Once they’re gone, air dash into a wall jump to the small platform by the stone pillar blocking the corridor with the Ability Cell. Jump to the flat treetop just above the laser and air dash to the platform in the upper right corner of your screen with the lever. Once the pillar is gone, glide down to claim the Ability Point.

7

On your map, this one looks like it’s separate from the rest of Black Root Burrows, but it’s connected by secret passageway. In the area to the left of where the Ability Point is, get into the water and swim toward what looks to be the bottom right corner of the area on your map. You’ll find a hidden tunnel with two stone presses and plenty of enemies to slow you down, but the Ability Cell is on a platform on the other side of it all.

Sorrow Pass

Ori And The Blind Forest: Definitive Edition - Ability Points Location Guide (14)Ability Points In Sorrow Pass

Number

Notes

1

While floating down the large area with the updraft, there’s a small ledge in the left wall that looks like a blocked off platform. Walk left into the hidden area with the Ability Point.

2

This Ability Cell is behind a locked door. From the Ability Point itself, head right, jump down this area with the updraft, run left, jump down again, and situate yourself toward the right in the small section with the opening in the ceiling. Jump up there, and the lever is on the left. Backtrack through these steps on the updrafts to claim the Ability Cell.

3

Guide yourself through the spikes and air bash your way over into a wall jump to hold onto the left wall past the spikes. Wall jump and do another air bash to the left wall, then drop on in. Head left from here, and before you get to the next pit of spikes, you’ll be able to jump up into an opening and grab the Ability Cell on the left.

As we mentioned at the beginning of this guide, you may discover that you end with more Ability Points than there are abilities to max out if you grab each Ability Cell throughout Ori and the Blind Forest.

No worries - so long as you fill out the entire skill tree using these points, you should still obtain the Phenom achievement or trophy for finishing it.
